A little bit of sunshine and you just feel so much better. What can be better than going for a walk in the countryside with the sun on your face and wildlife appearing from behind every tree? There is something quite magical about a large deer suddenly running from behind a tree nearby then stopping to look back at you, just to check, before heading off further into the woods. If you stop for long enough you suddenly notice that that branch is made up of hundreds of shades of browns and other colours. As you do this you forget momentarily to remember about all those other things that were so important before. When I’m doing hypnotherapy, clients describe that point when they come out of the trance-like state as the same feeling. What I try to do, as I build up the sessions, is make this a feeling they can access whenever they need to. So if you can’t go out and stare at tree for hours, why not try hypnotherapy instead? As William Wordsworth once said “… that best portion of a good man's life; his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.” How many of you still hold the door open for someone, or pop round for a chat with a friend or neighbour? An important part of what I do with my business is to support others. I love getting people involved in events, challenges and in being part of a team. Why do I do this? To watch a smile on someone’s face who thought that ‘thing’ might never happen, is worth its price in gold. So we’ve got around 28,000 days in our lifetime if we live to 75, let’s make as many as we can unique and build as many memories as possible…. I’ve just realised I’m over 14,000 days in, I’d better get busy. The clients I’ve been working with report that the more they think about trying to sleep, they more they can’t sleep. I use hypnotherapy to teach relaxation techniques to use whilst nodding off but also encourage them to forget about trying to sleep! I suggest maybe reading a book, writing down the thought in a notebook or diary. You get what you focus on so if you focus on not being able to sleep, then… So if you want to sleep more than 40 winks or as soundly as a baby why give hypnotherapy a try? Reminding you to consider only this moment. Yesterday was the first official day of spring, so time for a spring clean. I spent today turning out cupboards, drawers and anything that didn’t run away when I went near it. I found all those knickknacks I’d forgotten I’d got. Two diaries that are as blank as the day I bought them. Enough candles to light up a runway and pencils that if put together would form a fully-grown oak tree. Why do we buy these things? Are they like a comfort blanket, there just in case? I believe some definitely are, like a confidence booster. I want you to realise you are your own confidence. You create, you mould and you build your future. Individuals like myself just help by guiding you to find the real you. I had kept today free to do just that. I’d thought about going to Portsmouth but in the end, I went out on a fresh breezy walk across Rusper from my friends place with the dogs. Walking across the hills in Rusper, you feel the power of nature as it heads down on its way from the North Downs. It almost feels like the wind is stealing your breath as it rushes past. We are always being told to keep fit, so why not use the free green gym around us to its full advantage? My favourite location when doing personal training for people is outside and in all weather conditions. Rain, wind and snow don’t stop play in Bec’s training schedule. Did you have ambitions to be an astronaut or the next member of the Beatles, Bros or the Spice Girls? I always wanted to be in the Police but, due to a back injury, that never happened. If I could have had any job in the world I would probably have chosen to be a vet working with wild exotic animals, or a forensic pathologist. Both very different jobs you may think. The connection between them is about solving a mystery through facts and links because you cannot ask the subject any questions. I would say I have a good intuition for underlying problems. Most of the massage clients I treat know I have probably already figured out where to massage before they’ve told me the sore spot. And I’ve probably found several other places as well. It’s the same with hypnotherapy and counselling skills. It’s about picking up on those facts and feelings between the words, which usually helps me to solve problems. So if you didn’t get to do your dream job there is often an opportunity to get involved as a volunteer. I spent several minutes trying to get into my car tonight only to realise that I was bleeping the wrong car. Mine was merrily opening, closing and flashing behind me. It’s a bit like that time when you go upstairs to get something, you’re distracted and after six attempts of going up and down stairs finally get what you went for 10 minutes ago. I know we’ve all done it, me frequently. I do start to wonder what I am going to be like when I am older, so if you see me wandering down the street with underwear on the outside (except if I am dressed as Wonder Woman (it happens)), please kindly send me back for adjustment. Hypnotherapy can be used for memory increase, a relaxed mind can absorb so much more when it’s not dealing with 101 things at the same time. Maybe I need to start self hypnotising myself now, to be prepared. Do you ever have one of those days when nothing sticks and your mind appears to have come in a non-stick variety? It started to make me realise it’s a bit like our daily life. We start with a blank page and fill it with thoughts, feelings and emotions gradually throughout the day. If you could write your own page out with no restrictions I wonder what it would read like? Would you be writing about getting up at a later time than you have to? Would you be working somewhere completely different or maybe lying on a beach somewhere instead? Find a page in a diary or just a blank piece of paper. Write down your ideal day, how you’d feel, and then I challenge to do it. I know some of you have already started on them.
